Subtitles

UltiVoice generates subtitles automatically from the timed transcript produced during the dubbing pipeline. You can edit them, restyle them, and choose how they are delivered with the output video.

Subtitle formats

Format	Best for
ASS (Advanced SubStation Alpha)	Rich styling — fonts, colours, positioning, karaoke effects. Supported by VLC, MPC-HC, mpv.
SRT (SubRip)	Maximum compatibility — plain text with timestamps. Supported by nearly all players and platforms.

UltiVoice defaults to ASS for its styling capabilities. Choose SRT in the Export tab if your target platform requires it.

Editing subtitles

Open the Transcript tab after the pipeline completes. Each row is one subtitle segment showing:

• Start / End time — editable timestamps in HH:MM:SS.ms format.
• Original text — the transcribed source language text.
• Translated text — the dubbed language text used for both TTS synthesis and the subtitle track.

Edit text

Click any Translated text cell and type. Changes apply to the subtitle track immediately. If you also want to re-synthesise the audio for that segment with the new text, click Re-synthesise segment after editing.

Adjust timing

Click the Start or End timestamp cell and type a new value. The subtitle editor validates that segments do not overlap. Use the Preview player to check timing visually — subtitles render in real time.

Split or merge segments

• Split: select a segment, position the playhead at the split point in the Preview player, and click Split at playhead. The segment is divided into two at that timestamp.
• Merge: select two adjacent segments with Shift+click, then click Merge selected.

Subtitle styles (ASS)

Click Subtitle style in the Transcript toolbar to open the style editor:

Font	Any system font; default: Plus Jakarta Sans
Font size	Default: 36
Primary colour	Text colour
Outline colour	Drop-shadow / border colour
Position	Bottom-centre (default), top-centre, custom
Margin	Horizontal and vertical margin from edge in pixels

Style changes are previewed live in the Preview tab.

Default ASS style

The default style is designed for readability on dark backgrounds. For videos with predominantly bright backgrounds, increase the outline weight or switch to a dark background box style.

Burn-in vs sidecar

When you export, you choose how subtitles are included:

Option	Description
Burn into video	Subtitles are permanently rendered into the video frames (hardcoded). Works on all players and platforms with no extra files.
Sidecar file	Subtitles are saved as a separate .ass or .srt file alongside the video. The video file itself has no subtitle track. Players must load the sidecar manually.
Embedded track	Subtitles are muxed as a selectable track inside the video container (MKV only). The viewer can toggle them on/off.

For social media uploads (YouTube, TikTok, etc.) where you want subtitles always visible, burn-in is recommended. For professional delivery to a post-production team, use sidecar or embedded track.

Export subtitles only

To export the subtitle file without re-rendering the video:

1. Open the Export tab.
2. Under Output, check Export subtitles only.
3. Choose ASS or SRT and click Export.

This is useful if you need to revise subtitles after the video is already rendered.
